Fellowships have been an important part of IFUW’s activities since its very early days, when the first fellowships committee was founded in 1924. Over the years the fellowships programme has evolved, and the spread of disciplines and nationalities of the recipients has widened. Since its inception, the programme has funded more than 550 women from 76 countries. IFUW’s fellowships today are intended to encourage advanced scholarship and original research by women graduates.
Funding for IFUW fellowships comes almost entirely from national affiliates and donations from IFUW members. Unfortunately, in spite of the regular support of a few national affiliates, funding for the fellowships programme has declined steadily over the last decade.
