Overview
The Bina Roy Partners in Development Programme (BRPID) supports projects empowering women and girls through education and leadership development. BRPID grants are awarded to IFUW National Federations and Associations (NFAs) from developing countries on a competitive basis.
Eight excellent projects have been selected for funding in 2011. Among these are assertiveness training for women in Thailand, a project addressing family violence in Turkey, workshops on gender equality and women’s human rights in Mexico and a campaign to raise awareness about sexually transmitted diseases and family planning in high schools and universities in Moldova.
Other 2011 projects offer entrepreneurial assistance enabling illiterate women hairdressers to start their own businesses in Nigeria, entrepreneurial training for girls and young married women affected by HIV/AIDS in Kenya, and training in Uganda for girls in slum areas in energy briquette production and management of the environment through sustainable use of organic waste.
The IFUW Projects Committee closely monitors the selected projects and offers assistance with establishing evaluation frameworks. Part of the goal is to help strengthen NFA project capacity and increase their ability to obtain outside funding.
BRPID projects are made possible by donations from IFUW members and supporters around the world. Contributions of all sizes are welcome. Click here to learn how you can help.
Applications for 2012 BRPID funding will be available on this website from 1 December 2011.
