  1. They know what job they are doing, and everyone thinks it's important:
    1. Everyone helps to develop the meeting agendas.
    2. The proposed agenda is decided and, if possible, sent out before the meeting.
    3. The agenda is realistic.
    4. The group checks the agenda at the beginning of the meeting, and makes changes if they are needed. The timing of the items is also considered.
    5. A chairperson, or facilitator, helps to keep the group on task.

  2. Each person feels free to speak out:
    1. Every member is invited to speak out.
    2. Nobody makes threats or "power plays".
    3. Timid or shy people are invited to give their ideas.
    4. Group members are honest with each other.
    5. All ideas are welcomed for discussion.
    6. If appropriate, group members take turns being the chairperson.

  3. The group shares the responsibilities for getting the work done:
    1. People volunteer to help one another.
    2. Nobody is pressured into taking a job they don't want.
    3. The group makes use of the talents and skills of each member.
    4. At the end of the meeting, the group checks to make sure the jobs are evenly divided.

  4. Everyone is clear about what needs to be done, who will do it, and when:
    1. All ideas are carefully considered before a decision is made.
    2. The group keeps records of what action, who is responsible, and when.
    3. The group checks to see what has been done at each meeting.
    4. The group takes time to say "thanks" for each person's efforts.

  5. Everyone tries to practice good communication skills:
    1. People listen carefully to one another without interrupting.
    2. People try to express their ideas clearly.
    3. People are reminded when they are off-task.
    4. Everyone is given a chance to speak.
    5. Group members praise and encourage one another.
    6. Only helpful criticism is given.

  6. The group takes time to talk about how it works together:
    1. When things aren't moving, the group takes the time to discuss the problems.
    2. People are encouraged to make suggestions which will help the group.
    3. People listen thoughtfully to suggestions which will help the group.
