Using the Material - Where to Begin
The Leadership Resource material is organized by topics in small units or modules that can be used individually in short work sessions or combined in a longer one-day or multiple-day workshop. The index provides a complete listing of topics currently available.
The material is designed for users of varying experience. Each unit contains an explanation of the objectives the exercises, an estimation of the time required, and material that may be copied for overhead transparencies and participant handouts. (See Reproducing the Material.)
Whether your immediate interest is in project design, membership recruitment, advocacy or communication, we encourage all users to begin with the unit Getting Started: Where Are We Now? Where Do We Want To Go?. These exercises will help you develop a clear vision of what your organization wants to do and to set goals for how to accomplish it. This common understanding is fundamental to all aspects organizational life.
The techniques used throughout the modules are designed to draw on the experience and expertise of the participants. Since IFUW is an international, multicultural organization with a diverse membership, some strategies may need to be adapted to fit the local social, political and technical situation.
Participation is the key. The more members you involve in the planning process, the greater your chances for success!
