RAUW Activities

RAUW carries out a variety of activities to achieve its goal of promoting the quality of life of women and girls in Rwanda. Some of these activities are described below.

Overseas introductions

RAUW members can ask for introductions to members of other affiliates of IFUW (International Federation of University Women). Those travelling should contact the RAUW Council at least four weeks before the start of a trip.

Triennial Conferences

The Triennial Conferences of IFUW, FUWA (Federation of Universtiy Women of Africa) and RAUW provide members with opportunities to take an active part in the life of the international, regional and national associations. Members exchange views and experiences through workshops, interdisciplinary seminars, networking, leadership training, plenary discussions and formal meetings.

Monthly Meetings

Between conferences members meet at monthly meetings. Highlights of meetings can be a guest speaker, panel discussion, or some other activity of interest.

Financial Assistance

Through its Scholarship fund, RAUW awards modest book grants to members proceeding on to further studies, on request.

Women’s Issues

Through its study projects and lobbying, RAUW raises awareness on topical issues and advocates for legislation and change in attitudes to improve the situation and opportunities for women and girls. Conference resolutions adopted by the membership form the policies of the Association. These policies guide RAUW activities and its relations with other NGOs.

Newsletter

Regular communications are maintained through a bimonthly newsletter that contains various items of interest to members. Information about fellowships and other financial assistance available are provided by email.

RAUW Publications

RAUW will be conducting research studies which will be published and made available to ministries, educational institutions and interested people and groups. Proceeds of sales will help build our scholarship fund.

DGroup Network

All members of RAUW are connected on a DGroup network. Information about IFUW, FUWA, national federations and associations, RAUW, job, scholarship and award opportunities, and news items relevant to women graduates are posted to the DGroup on a daily basis. At the time of the launch of the Association on 5 May, there were over 200 members on the Dgroup.

Projects

RAUW seeks funding for projects particularly related to improving the education of women and girls in Rwanda. To date these include providing schooling for girl-headed families as a result of the genocide, training our members in the use of information technology, internet and DGroup communication, and career education and career fairs for girls.
