Education: Resources

General resources

Toolkits, training tools & classroom resources

  • The Education for Sustainable Development TOOLKIT is designed to help schools and communities to develop a process to create a locally relevant and culturally appropriate education. This toolkit is based on the idea that the communities and local educational systems need to integrate their sustainable efforts.
  • For teachers and learners, there is an interactive curriculum with a focus on action themes on the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
  • There are reports, training, workshops and a toolkit on Human Development and virtual courses available and accessible at the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) training website.
  • The World Bank's Development Education Programme website provides classroom-ready sustainable development material.

Other resources

  • Educational Note Series, World Bank.
  • The electronic World Bank Institute (WBI) has a Catalogue of Learning programmes and activities. It also gives information on WBI's mission and objectives. In addition, online learning opportunities are described with links to online applications.
  • The new World Bank Online Atlas of the MDGs is a visualization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The World Bank's Data Group and National Geographic have undertaken a partnership to raise awareness of the MDGs by producing and disseminating a large-format, full-colour wall map highlighting progress toward the goals. The map, entitled A Global Agenda to End Poverty, is an informative tool to increase understanding of the MDGs among all audiences. It has a special focus on educating secondary school students about the substance of the MDGs and what is needed to meet them.
  • World leaders met for the 2005 World Summit and the documentation with special emphasis on promoting education can be found at: http://www.un-ngls.org/un-summit-DOD.doc
