Georgia: GAUW to lobby government for increased employment opportunities and career development for women

Action taken is support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 1
Georgian University Women are to meet with Government authorities and private sector representatives to discuss the present labour market in Georgia and support the provision of increased employment opportunities and career development for women. They also plan to start discussions with other Georgian Women NGOs to provide a better work-life balance for women in professional careers and high quality, affordable state funded nursery and childcare placements. In addition, they will organise educational workshops and mentoring support networks for young International Displaced Women from Abkhazia and South Ossetia to encourage them to begin professional careers.

Georgian University Women to assist the peace process with Abkhazian and Ossetia

Action taken in support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 09
Georgian University Women are involved in peace negotiation processes with Abkhazian and Ossetian NGO representatives and leaders to produce a better understanding of peace processes concerning opposing sides of areas of conflict. They will be creating new women’s groups with members from Caucasian republics (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia) in order to establish a platform for Caucasian women to discuss gender and conflict resolution issues.

Georgian University Women to organize courses in money management for women

Action taken in support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 3
Georgian University women plans to organize courses for women in understanding credit and money management, financial decision making, tax pension benefits and savings. In addition are planning to teach women how to understand the legal and financial implications of their civil status.

Georgian University Women to discuss a national climate action plan

Action taken in support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 07
Georgian University Women, in cooperation with its partner organization Healthy World, will discuss a national climate action plan in order to implement activities concerning a healthy way of life, climate change and genetically modified food.

Georgian University Women to start negotiations with NGOs to establish a National Ethics Committee

Georgian University Women plan negotiations with other NGOs to urge their government to establish a National Ethics Committee that uses as its mandate Article 19 of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2006).

Georgian University Women to organize seminars for journalists and participate in television and radio programs raising awareness on human trafficking

Georgian University Women will organize seminars for journalists and NGOs working with victims of human trafficking in order to prevent an increase in their number. They also intend to participate in television and radio programs discussing the issue.

Georgian University Women to organize meetings with representatives of government, MPs and the media to raise awareness on the abuse of female migrants

Action taken in support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 04
Georgian University Women will organize meetings with representatives of government, MPs and the media to discuss the issue and monitor the implementation of ratified international conventions on the abuse of female migrants. They are particularly concerned with the plight of International Displaced Persons (IDPs), especially women and children.

Georgia: GAUW to promote better access to gender studies courses at the national and international level

Action in support of IFUW Policy Resolution 2010, No. 2
Georgian University Women will be promoting an increase in gender study courses at universities and organizing weekly lectures and seminars at their NFA office to provide extra courses on gender issues for schoolchildren, students and International Displaced Persons (IDPs). They also intend to establish a women’s club for journalists to provide gender education through media and help young women access Master and PhD courses in gender studies.
