Professional Field and/or present occupation Starting my career in an advertising agency, I then practised as a barrister in a renowned law firm dealing with High Court cases and subsequently worked in a important business law firm in Paris. I also specialized in labour law and rights of non profit organisations. I am still a barrister and Mediator at the HALDE, « Haute Autorité de Lutte contre les Discriminations et l'Egalité », "High Authority against Discriminations and for Equality", a French national body.
I also teach law at the « Pantheon, Paris 1, Sorbonne University » and History of Women's Rights at Master's level at the University of Paris
Skills and experience (volunteer and professional) that have prepared you to be an IFUW Board Member

I have been involved in NGOs ever since I took on the responsibility of my high school UNESCO club. In 1990, I joined the French NFA, AFFDU, and a year later was elected to the Board. I was then elected vice-president and was president until 2005. Currently, I am a member of the IFUW team at UNESCO. As a member of the IFUW group of Constitutional advisers, I worked on our statutes.
Since its creation in 1994, I have represented AFFDU and been very involved in a network made up of the major women's organizations in France. This network aims at enhancing women's participation in economic, political and social fields. Active lobbying successfully resulted in the modification of the French Constitution and in the Parliament's vote to pass laws both in favour of positive discrimination in politics as well as gender equality in the workplace.

Likewise, in collaboration with other European and French organizations, I fought to have equality between men and women included in the draft European Constitution. I have been lobbying for many years in favour of CEDAW. As a strong supporter of human rights, I am sure that the key for a peaceful and democratic world is linked to quality education for girls and boys alike. In this context, I am currently working on trying to create an association in Morocco which would become a member of IFUW.

Experience or knowledge of the United Nations, its specialized agencies and their national commissions

- Member of IFUW team at UNESCO, member of the Commission of Human Rights
- Work on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, CEDAW.
- Participation at international meetings
- Appointments with high level people working in policy of equality, gender mainstreaming.
- As president of the French NFA, supported our UNESCO team in Paris and followed their work and actions closely.

Other relevant skills and experience from the last 10 years relevant to this position

Over the past 10 years, I have often been invited to speak on the evolution of women's rights in France.

As president of the French NFA, I succeeded in having AFFDU become a partner in a Master's degree in equality between women and men, at the University of Paris.

I am one of the founders of the French competition for school children called Les Olympes de la Parole, which took its inspiration from the Irish NFAs public speaking competition. Every year there is a new subject but always around questions of equality, discriminations. We have received awards for this competition, including a European prize "all different, but all equal".

I was awarded the Legion d'Honneur and the Ordre National du Mérite by the President of the French Republic for my work in all the above fields .

Goals for this position and the contribution you believe you can personally make if elected or appointed

I want IFUW to have a strong voice in international fora. It should be a source of ideas for helping NFAs to be familiar with and to support CEDAW and other international bodies addressing all forms of violence against women.
IFUW must make an inventory of good practice for women's emancipation, access to higher education, facilitating world-wide harmonization of degrees as has been done in Europe, break the glass ceiling to enable women to reach top jobs and political responsibilities and help the visibility of women.

In the past, IFUW was an important and influential body in the history of women's rights throughout the world, promoting international cooperation, friendship, peace and respect.

Currently, IFUW is endangered by diminishing resources and its value is not fully recognised.
In order for IFUW to have a viable future, it must be highly visible and efficient and adapt to change.
I believe that my experience in advocacy and communication can help me make a useful contribution to the work of the Board and bring IFUW's message not just to NFAs but also to partner organisations.
As vice-president I could be responsible for Board actions of a legal nature and I could use my experience of lobbying to perform to take on responsibilities to be defined by the Board.
For example, I could create contacts with other organisations with whom IFUW has affinities and possibly form partnerships, making our actions more widely known. I could also try to obtain awards and grants, as well as public and private subsidies.

What do you see as the role of the Board?

The Board should be the driving force of IFUW, defining strategy and leading the organization under the direction of the President. However, it must remain in touch with the grass roots and must constantly consult with NFAs to see what their concerns are. The Board should work as a team , using the expertise of each member to the full.

Board members serve as committee liaisons or have special responsibilities in the following areas: international advocacy, programme, projects, membership, communications, finance, resolutions, fellowshis and assistance to displaced women graduates.

For which of these roles are you most suited and why?

International advocacy
Communications

These are areas in which I have considerable experience, both in my professional and voluntary roles.
