Professional Field and/or present occupation Partner to a consultancy which is specialized in Communications & Management, which develps (social/inclusion) programmes including (arts and sports) education for children/youth/adults living in esp. ethnic neighbourhoods (life skills).

a)  International Coordinator Young Members (ICYM) IFUW (2001-04) ; Co-developing and co-organizing Young Leaders Training, IFUW Conference, Perth, 2004; Coordinating Young Members/Next Generation in the Netherlands, incluing co-developing programme of national activities (1998-2001); Assisting German Young Members to get organized (2004-06); Co-providing young members with opportunities to officially participate within IFUW structures.

b) Convenor workshops Manchester 2007, preparing materials and information for workshop leaders, and evaluation afterwards, including reporting to IFUW board; As chair European Affairs NVR (Dutch Council of Women), researching and preparing materials for expert meetings; Member of VVAO working group preparing IFUW Mexico conference; Member of national committee VVAO, VVAO Jubilee 2003; For the IFUW online discussion on Women and Work (ILO theme) preparing information (2009)

c) organizing and co-presenting Workshop IFUW, Women's Worlds Conference Madrid (WWMM 2008), 2008; co-organized and co-presented the young members workshops, Ottawa (2001) and Perth (2004)

Experience or knowledge of the United Nations, its specialized agencies and national commissions?

- Attending meetings/seminars of IFUW at UN HQ, on UN themes, Geneva

-  Listening to & discussing with members of the teams of UN reps. IFUW

- Attending (international) seminars /conferences on UN themes

- Professionally: involved in UN programme raising awareness on Children's Rights, the Netherlands (1988-2004)

- As a member of Dutch Council of Women (NVR), Committee International Affairs: preparing statements of Dutch women's representatives to CSW/CSD/UN, on a yearly basis, for this it's important to study UN reports;

-Moderating online discussions on Women and Work (following Decent Work campaign of ILO)

 

 

Other skills and experience (volunteer and professional) from the last 10 years which qualify you for this position

Professionally, as coordinator/teamleader, I'm used to working with teams of people/colleagues that work in different cities/countries.  This works well, and resembles working within an IFUW committee as most of the work is done online or through skype/phone.  Also I have served on this committee for 2 terms as a member, so I know what it is about.

Goals for this position and the contribution you believe you can personally make if elected or appointed

- to help bridge the gap between the young(er) and old(er) generations within IFUW;

- to support the relationship between the regional groupings and IFUW;

- to contribute to the continuity of IFUW;

- to communicate the goals of IFUW;

- to help to maintain IFUW as a modern, effective and up to date organization

 

What do you see as the role of the convener?

- to support the team/committee members;
- to coordinate and encourage the members to work together as well as possible and by doing so to help fulfill the goals and policies of IFUW

- to work together to enhance the continuity and furture of IFUW;

-to communicate within the IFUW structure and framework., for example office, board, committees, NFA's , individual members, regional groupings.
