Prior
to moving to the UK, I worked for the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce
as an Information Assistant (1991). Thereafter I joined Overseas
Realty Ceylon Limited in the capacity of Research and Planning Analyst
from 1992 to 1995. I was appointed as an Executive (Administration)
in the same organisation. During this period I also joined
the Social Scientist Association Gender Studies Division and contributed
to national newspapers in areas of women's issues.
In
2000 I moved to the UK and enroled with the Staffordshire University
to read for my MA. I joined the North East Association of
BFWG in 2003 and was appointed a committee member in 2004 and 2005.
In 2005 I took over the role of Coordinator for the Under 40's Network
- a post I hold to date.
I
have gained a good understanding on the Status of Women and the
issues faced by women in their daily lives which I have developed
through my academic attainment an through sharing information.
This has given me the opportunity to present my work in various
academic and non academic meetings nationally and internationally.
During
the years in my work and academic capacity I have gained considerable
experience in the field of management, labour relations and gender
relations. I have also formed and manage the Women's Network
that is focusing on including women's voices in conflict transformation
and combating violence against women during times of conflict.
