Geographer
with long term experience in Public Health-Health Promotion
Elected
Otago Regional Councillor, Chairperson of Consents Committee |
| Skills
and experience from the last 10 years which qualify her for this position |
With
broad experience of governance and team management, I have the skills
and energy to offer myself as President of IFUW. My committed
involvement started 30 years ago and has included a variety of roles
at local, and more recently, international level (serving on the
Membership Committee between 1995-1998, and as Vice President 2001-2007).
Valueing what I have learnt of our history and experienced during
the recent difficult times, I know the challenges and opportunities
that are ahead.
As
a publicly elected member of my community I have been on hospital
boards, the University of Otago Council and currently the chairperson
of Otago Regional Council's Consents Committee. I was awarded
the Public Health Association of New Zealand's Public Health Champion
Award in 2002 and continue to advocate for womens' health and healthy
communities and cities. I have a Services to Local Government
Award from 2001 and completed a Certificate for Good Decision Making
for Resource Management Law Functions in 2005. As a trustee
of the Southern Heritage Trust I am involved in presenting the past
for the future.
Having
worked with most of the standing committees and YM's, as Board link
member during the last six years, I appreciate and understand their
role in policy, programme activities and our need for their active
participation. I have undertaken the staff liaison work more
recently during a painful though organization-future-focused time
and appreciate our staff's insight and dedication. I am particularly
proud of the successful completion of the archives to their accessible
and safe home in the Netherlands.
Our
international website and real, personal communication through Conference
are essential for peaceful progress. As we focus our energy
locally and regionally, IFUW becomes the vital advocate internationally
and we must use our skills and knowledge networks wisely. |
| Goals
for the position and the contribution the candidate believes she can
personally make if elected or appointed |
1.
To promote IFUW and its values of working for peace, equality, fairness,
justice and higher education for women and girls.
2.
To encourage links and networks between individual members and NFAs
for friendship and mutual growth and understanding.
3.
To support and enhance the international advocacy and information
sharing roles of IFUW, its regional grups and NFAs, its partners,
and our UN representatives. Our website will be a key tool.
4.
Communication will be a key focus and that includes listening, reflection,
and action.
5.
To participate actively in debates and decision-making, being aware
of sound policy making, plans and financial constraints and new
opportunities.
6.
My contribution will involve commitment to positive, inclusive leadership,
timely responses, supportive staff liaison through the Secretary
General, and team work with all those elected and appointed, including
NFAs, and their members, regional groups of NFAs, committees, and
of course the Board of Officers. |
