While acting as Treasurer and Secretary for AFGW I have put considerable effort into organising and restructuring their finances and investments and in revising their Education Trust Deeds to achieve Deductible Gift Recipient status with the Australian Taxation Office.

As a Churchwarden I was one of three lay people who under the diocesan government act have responsibility for the property and plant of the parish, for appointing staff, and overseeing finances. St James' is a large church in the centre of the CBD with over $30 million in properties which at that time had 3 full-time clerical staff and 3 lay staff as well as a paid musical director and choir, an independently managed Ethics centre, and a Foundation for Social Justice and Welfare.

Other skills and experience (volunteer and professional) from the last 10 years which qualify you for this position

Although I have no formal training in financial matters I can read and interpret balance sheets and financial documents, I write well and think clearly. I work well in a team.

Goals for this position and the contribution you believe you can personally make if elected or appointed

I would aim to work with the committee to ensure that IFUW continued on a sound financial basis and to plan ahead to obtain and allocate funds so that it could fulfill its aims. I would also aim to present financial matters in a simplified format so they are accessible to members without financial experience. I realise that people, especially women, are reluctant to deal with money but believe that for all members to accept ownership of the organisation they must be aware of the financial implications of their actions and decisions. Developing that understanding and ownership is something I would contribute to IFUW. I am also aware the finances is an unpopular portfolio and think I am able to support the committee in undertaking an essential aspect of management.

What ideas do you have for how IFUW could attract outside funding?

I think funding is best attracted when is is focussed on specific projects where a goal can be set and success can be measured. For IFUW to attract outside funding such projects need to be identified, developed and marketed to outside funding bodies. I have experience in writing grant applications for university and government funding.

A principal source of outside funding is through applications to charitable organisations and benevolent trusts. Appropriate bodies would need to be identified and approached. I feel confident in undertaking such a role.
