Skills and experience in the following areas:
a. programme development at local, national & international level:
b. research and preparation of resource material for individuals or groups
c. organization of seminars & workshops |
Due to the function of my husband (UNICEF Representative)
I lived and traveled in several countries over thirty years.
This and my study years in France exposed me to a wide range
of international life. The nature of work of UNICEF in developing
countries motivated me considerably to volunteer with several
local and international NGOs and working groups to alleviate
the burden of woman and children. In duty stations where
my husband served such as Algiers, Afghanistan, Pakistan,
Central Asian Countries etc. I was involved with field work,
advocacy and fundraising activities in the areas of Girls
Education, Child and Woman Rights etc. I did so, sometimes
within the framework of the local branch of the UN Woman
Group, sometimes getting involved in the field work or as
member of the organizing committees. During our posting
at the HQ in New York, I organized a woman support group
in our community and colleted a 40 foot container full of
children and woman clothing as part of the Afghanistan Winter
Emergency Programme. This was followed by fundraising and
information disseminating activities for the school feeding
programmes. In Lebanon, the UN Woman Group, during my tenure
as Chair, supported education of especially the girl child
in the South Lebanon including the liberated areas. The
group organized fundraising activities to supply books,
library facilities; computer equipment etc. to several schools.
I always was interested in the cultural exchange and interaction.
For this reason, I also worked towards promoting conferences,
study tours, book reviews etc. amongst the local and expatriate
woman in Asian Study Group. Woman's rights and economic
independence have always been of paramount importance to
me. In several countries I worked closely with Barr Associations,
Human Rights Groups and Universities. Finally, to make justice
to my University degree and studies, I carried out research
in linguistics and phonology of Berber in Algiers, Urdu
in Pakistan and Kazakh in Kazakhstan. I am also fond of
history and I like translating history books; my last translation
from English to Turkish was published last September on
Turkish recent History. |
| Other skills and experience (volunteer and professional) from the last 10 years which qualify you for this position |
My above referred interest and experience including
my long years of exposure to international life in both
developed and developing countries has guided me during
my three years assignment with the Woman Status Committee
of IFUW and will further guide me in any assignment that
I may be given for the term 2010 - 2013. Following my three
years of experience with the committee I am now persuaded
that the mission and the goals of IFUW and its national
affiliates are totally within my vision. As much as I believe
in the community level work and promoting the change amongst
the disadvantaged, the importance of participating fully
in the political process at all levels seem more obvious
to me and I deem should be our priority focus. I reckon
that woman has always been an excellent agent for change.
To this end a great deal of advocacy work should be carried
out to co-opt and engage the community leaders, policy makers,
not only public but private sector leadership as well. I
also believe that the international dimension of IFUW is
an excellent asset to exchange experience and expertise;
the input of its international partners to field level work
is an excellent leverage for the success of projects in
reaching the un-reached. |
Goals for this position and the contribution you believe you can personally make if elected or appointed |
Along the lines above, I believe I can continue to
be useful and contribute, to the extend possible of the
assignment that may be given to me within this framework.
