IFUW has established a set of general network etiquette guidelines which all network members are expected to follow. They are intended to keep the networks running smoothly. All subscriber must follow these guidelines.

  • Each network is a public forum, where members may raise issues and share information about meetings or events that they think will be of interest to other IFUW members.

  • The messages are not screened for content either by the IFUW Board of Officers or Headquarters. The messages posted reflect the opinion and experiences of individual members and do not necessarily represent official IFUW policy.

  • No messages should be posted which in any way contradict the purposes of IFUW or promote discrimination on the basis of race, nationality, religion or political opinions.

  • The networks should not be used for commercial or personal fund-raising purposes; however, special appeals for official IFUW or national affiliate projects may be announced.

  • If you wish to reply to a message you have received through the network and your answer is of general interest, we encourage you to send it to the entire network. However, if you wish to send a personal message that is meant for only one or two people, please use their individual addresses and not the network address. Do not use the REPLY button if your answer is intended for only one or two individuals. When you use the REPLY button, your reply goes to everyone on the list. If you wish to reply to a message in a more personal manner, copy the address of the person sending the message and send a private message to that address.

  • Please remember that some of us are novice Internet users and that English is not everyone's first language.

  • DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS to the networks. This will block too much space in the server since everyone will get the attachment. If you wish to share information from an attachment, either include a short summary or extract in your own message or state in your message where the attachment may be obtained (from you or the original source).

  • If you have received e-mail privately from a member of the list or an outside source, please obtain permission before forwarding the message or any part of the message to the list. This will avoid possible embarassment if someone is making a private comment or expressing a private opinion.
