The Latvian Association of University Women (LAUW) was founded on 12 June 1928 and in 1929 was affiliated to the International Federation of University Women.After the forced interruption of the activities of LAUW in 1940, it was re-established on 11 July 1992.
The Latvian Association's aims are:
- to promote understanding and friendly relations among specialists of different branches;
- to advance the scientific research work of women;
- to promote the prestige of educated women and to enhance their role in the cultural life of Latvia;
- to encourage wider application of the knowledge and professional skills of women in all spheres of state and public life.
Membership:
Any woman living in Latvia or abroad, a graduate or undergraduate, can be a member, irrespective of her speciality, present occupation, nationality, religion and political conviction as long as she supports the aims of the Association.Activities:
- Meetings, open discussions, clubs of interest are organized on all relevant themes;
- Opportunities to network with members at local, regional, national and international meetings.
