Who we are
The International Federation of University Women (IFUW) is an international, non-profit organization of women graduates. We were founded in 1919 by women who believed in the importance of working together for peace, international understanding and friendship.
Our members are women of all ages, cultures, disciplines and professions. Many of them are experts and leaders in their fields. Through IFUW, women graduates form an international network, bringing an interdisciplinary approach to global problems.
Our 67 national affiliates and members are present in more than 120 countries, where they carry out a wide range of educational, humanitarian and cultural activities. |
What we do
IFUW works to empower women and girls through lifelong education for leadership, decision-making and peace. Our members are committed to improving the status of women and girls, and to enabling women to effect positive change for a peaceful, sustainable future.
IFUW's four priority action areas are education for the girl child, adult literacy for women, access to and the advancement of women in higher education, and empowering women to be leaders and decision makers.
We also currently have a federation-wide Programme for Action that links the work of our national affiliates in the areas of education, the environment and the economy, and human rights. |
