Pre-Conference Consultation on IFUW Programme

As a result of the 2008/2009 Programme Survey, the IFUW Board and Status of Women Committee (SWC) have adopted a new process for developing the next Programme for Action (PfA), which will give National Federations and Associations (NFAs) and members a greater voice.

We invite you to visit this page periodically for the latest information on the consultation process.

COMPLETED: Phase 1, April - May 2009

Phase 1 of the consultation process was a questionnaire intended to give NFAs and members an initial opportunity to identify the themes that are most appropriate to national and/or local programmes. Click here for a summary of the questionnaire results.

COMPLETED: Phase 2, 15 October - 16 November 2009

Phase 2 of the consultation process was an email discussion, based on the outcomes of Phase 1. The Status of Women Committee invited members from all categories of membership, to share their knowledge and experience about actions they, their branch, or NFA have taken in different areas. The discussion covered three sessions on the following themes:

Part I: 15-26 October: Education
Part II: 26 October -5 November: Financial Independence
Part III: 5-16 November: Empowerment of Women

A summary of this discussion can be read here.

CURRENT: Phase 3, February-April 2010

In Phase 3 of the consultation process, members and NFAs are invited to present examples of best practice activities they have used in the past or plan to use in the future. These examples should address one or more aspects of the themes noted above, under Phase 2.

The objective is to collect examples of effective actions that are connected to NFA concerns. These examples should be activities which NFAs would be ready to organize and participate in, so as to achieve change and make a difference in the lives of women and girls.  Those NFAs who have their own agendas will still be free to carry out their own programmes.

If you have already reported on a project or programme in the first stages of the Consultation, you need not repeat it unless you want to expand on what you did, with whom you worked, what resources you needed, and any outcomes of your action.

Members, branches and NFAs are invited to consult with others and present their project/programme in an email to discussions@ifuw.org by 30 April 2010.
Respondents please include your name and NFA /membership category.

Phase 4, IFUW Conference, August 2010

Prior to the Conference, the SWC will prepare a background document based on the outcomes of Phases 1-3. This document will serve as the basis for additional input from various Conference sessions, which will serve to define and develop the PfA. Additional information will be circulated closer to the date.
