Federation of University Women During
2008 the Pakistan Federation participated in the Government "Adopt
a School Programme" and adopted, as its school, the Alimiyah Girls
School in Karachi. The adoption programme involved improving the standard
of education of the school concerned and carrying out repairs and renovations
to the structure of the school. Pakistan Federation of University
Women (PAUW) members supervised student and teacher attendance, monitored
teaching skills of staff and organised training programmes for the update
of skills. In addition, the school adopted by PFUW required a lot
of repairs to furniture and had washrooms in serious need of renovation.
One PFUW's aims for 2008 was to provide clean, safe drinking water for
the students by installing an electric water cooler. PFUW reported that they were
able to renovate two latrines and get a water supply line to the school
restored. Unfortunately they were unable to continue with all their planned
restoration work as the government de-nationalised the school and it was
returned to its previous owners. |
