Implementation of Right to Information Act for Women's Empowerment in India

The Right to Information Act became law in June 2005.  IFUWA wants to use this law in two ways.  (1) to get women facing non-complicance delays by governmental agencies and public sector units to be able to achieve redress.  (2) to increase confidence, and decision-making of its members by explaining the implications of the law and by teaching members how it can be applied and how they can use the law to fight for women's rights.

25% of IFUWA members will receive training in using the Right to Information Act.  Partners in the project will be Parivarthan-New Dehli, Yahsada-Pune, Bombay chartered Accountants Society and the National Informatics Center-Pune.

As a second step, the knowledge acquired will be applied to build case studies which will be used as a mass media showcase, to show how civil society can benefit from the new law.
