Asociación de Mujeres Universitarias de El Salvador
Multi-Functional Medical Clinic

The "Multi-Functional Medical Clinic" run by the El Salvador Association of University women provides a vital community health service in a low-income area of San Salvador. The clinic is open 6 days a week from 8am until 4pm and is staffed by members of the association including a doctor, a dentist, a laboratory technician, a pharmacist and a secretary. Patients pay only a small fee for consultations and medications. More than 150 people a week use the clinic, many of these women and children.

A dental-care outreach programme organised by the clinic visits adjacent communities and schools giving instruction in dental care and free treatment.

The goal for 2007 is to continue providing health care services to the needy people of the community, as well as providing medicines free of charge or at very low cost, fee blood pressure monitoring, dental check-ups.  Courses will be offered at high schools covering subjects such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, dental care and vocational guidance. It is also hoped to provide some legal support for women and advice on women's rights, discimination and gender violence.
