Who
are we ?
The
Belgian Federation of University Graduate Women was founded in 1922.
Our
federation is a member of the IFUW (International Federation of University
Women). Since then it has becme a federation composed of 7 sections
(Antwerpen, Bruxelles, Bruxelles-Schuman-Mons, Charleroi, Gent, Liège,
Namur). The major vocation of our federation is to allot post-graduate
grants. Besides, it attempts to promote women's rights, quality of education,
protection of mankind and peace, it takes part in several community,
national and international organisations that work to create friendship
links between university women of all countries and to defend their
interests in the world. Our federation also organises conferences and
round tables on various subjects.

Grants
A major
activity of the Belgian Federation of University Graduate Women is to
allot grants that allow young graduate federation members to pursue
research projects abroad. Each of the existing grants has particular
rules and specific allotting conditions. The application forms must
be received by the Grant Commission before the end of April. Several
grants exist. Information of application forms can be requested by mail
from the president of the grant commission or by email.
Each
year, upon proposal of the Grant Commission, the Belgian Federation
allots a grant (the national grant) to an effective member (membership
for at least two years), allowing a short research or study fellowship
abroad (~ 1250 €). The Claire PREAU grant (funds managed by the
Bruxelles section) is allotted in odd years, whereas the Marie DERSCHEID-DELCOURT
grant or the OCCHINO-KERNKAMP grant (for a work in exact or biological
sciences ) are allotted alternatingly allotted in even years. To be
eligible, the candidate must have been an effective member of our federation
for two years. These grants are allotted for projects that are already
in progress and are not renewable. To be eligible for the international
grants (see IFUW ), the candidate needs only to have been a member for
one year.
